Apparently, there was a TV show shortly after Karen Carpenter's death on which Richard Carpenter was a guest together with a comedian, who apparently was unaware that Karen had recently died. The topic earlier had discussed anorexia, and the comedian said "two ladies were walking through Hollywood when a very skinny woman walked past. One woman shook her head sadly and said 'that's anorexia nervosa'. The other woman said 'oh, Blanche, that's wonderful, you know EVERYONE in Hollywood'."
There was apparently just a stunned and embarrassed silence.
