The most influential passage on work in the bible, I think, is Genesis 3:19.

"By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return"

This early verse suggests work is a punishment because of Adam and Eve's disobedience that got them thrown out of Paradise.

I don't understand what the justification for slavery could be because this has been prevalent in human history.

I don't know what other religions/myths say about the origins of work.

I think the idea that any work or any wealth creation is good is a damaging ideology.

I find it hard to justify work that involves making weapons of mass destruction and weapons that kill and maim people. Work that pollutes the environment and is an unsustainable exploitation of the environs. Work that doesn't pay a living wage or is demeaning. And so on..

I do not think it impossible to create ethical work but I think it has to be a collective effort. Fortunately some firms and some Government policy are trying to tackle issues like environmental damage. Too little too late?
Don't do it then.
