    Default GED Obtained

I took my final test today (Nov. 12) -- mathematics -- and passed!

    • Reading: 480
    • Writing: 700
    • Social Studies: 530
    • Science: 550
    • Mathematics: 450

    Average Score: 542

For those who don't know, here's how it works: There are 800 possible points on each test; in order to pass each test, you need to score at least a 410. However, in order to get your GED, you need to score at least an average of 450 across all tests.

    Congratulations Amaury.

This is, I think, what a GED is:

"General Educational Development (GED) tests are a group of five subject tests which, when passed, certify that the taker has American or Canadian high school-level academic skills."

I'd never heard of GED before reading this. How does it differ from SATs?

A GED is taken after you have left school by people who didn't graduate to show they are now at that level.

The SATs are tests taken to find out if a student is ready for college. They are independent of the exams to graduate school.

Anyone that feels the need to further point out that it contains abuse is clearly a total fucking moron who's also insulting YOUR intelligence by pointing out the bleeding obvious as if you were too fucking dumb to notice it.

This has been a public service announcement by Fork Me. Have a nice fucking day.

Thanks, so it sounds as though they are similar except for the timing, i.e. they both demonstrate a grounding in core subjects.

Is there an adult equivalent in the UK?

There isn't really an equivalent to either in the UK. In the UK when you leave school you take GCSE's and A'Levels or vocational qualifications if you stay later. You can take GCSEs oe A levels at any age.

We don't have an equivalent to the SAT here, Universities use the A level results. Oxford and Cambridge have entrance exams for some subjects, but they're done by them, they're not a national qualification.

Most Universities now have Foundation Courses which are designed for mature students without the A level to reach the required standard for the course, but again, they're done by the University themselves.
