Fork Me It's very cleverly done, in Bob's "new artist" thread I posted about Melanie Martinez, who is one of my favourite singer songwriters of the present day. Both of her albums are concept albums, the first, called Cry Baby is about childhood, and the...

Memnoch I think it's very clever, but you have to take the context into account, i.e. when it was written (1960s) and what young Americans were thinking at that time. Scarborough Fair is an old song about unrequited love and Simon's counterpoint is about...

Alice I'm still waiting for an Easyjet refund for Corsica. Changed my Tenerife flights until next year. Supposed to go to Italy next week, Nice in October and Malta in December and again in February. I wonder whether I'll see any of these places.

Scrotnig I dunno about that. The nights are drawing in by then and it can be a bit chilly.

Plutonium This great anti war song was written by Scottish-Australian songwriter Eric Bogle. He named the fallen soldier in the song Willie MacBride, because of the anti-Irish sentiment in Britain at the time. It was covered by Irish group The Fureys, and...

Fairy_Nuff We were in Cornwall for 8 days the week before last, in a village we go to about once a year. We had no problems at all, the locals were as friendly as always. We did have restrictions re: not being able to just wander in somewhere for a meal, but...

Memnoch Thank you all for your input, and having considered all your comments I reported the incident to the local police this morning. They called me a short while ago with the following feedback: 1. The sign. The park ranger already called them to report...

TheDruid 3X3 I actually did not make my Denver Sandwich properly. Instead of the Wieners, you are supposed to use Bacon. 3X3

Plutonium No one has posted this (as far as I can see), but we have to have it. It is a traditional Irish song, about doomed love - both parties will die but will be reunited in the afterlife. It has been recorded by many artists, but like so many of my...

Scrotnig "Oh, I think the explanation might be you've been fooled by a simple olfactory misdirection. Little bit like ventriloquism of the nose. It's an elementary trick in certain parts of the galaxy"

Luna Here's a happy one - and no, I don't why they are playing Christmas carols in the second clip given that the Carnival is usually celebrated at the end of Lent!

Chris Mitchell I can assure you, I've never had a religious leader on the end of my rod. Well, apart from two rabbis, a vicar, and an imam, but they don't count because it was at a coke-fuelled rave.

Chris Mitchell I'm not entirely sure, but anyone called Tamara is clearly a lot posher than I am, and I therefore bow to her linguistic superiority.

Fork Me No matter the outward bravado, those kids, and their parents, are usually scared of the police. Families like that often have other reasons not to want the police to have an excuse to visit their home. Calling them was the right thing to do....

Memnoch I had the same thought and I must confess I looked it up. Olfactive is, allegedly, a real word. I'm guessing it's recently made up by some pretentious millennial tosspot; My spell checker doesn't agree with it and neither do I.
