The Season kicks off...

First Practice for the Australian F1 Grand Prix kicks off in the early hours of this morning, and the race is on at 7am on Sunday Morning (A few hours later than normal).

There is certainly a lot of anticipation about this season, with the new rules, new cars, and the possibility of cars that aren't red or silver, being at the front.

But already there are problems. Ferrari, Renault and Red Bull all lodged a complaint about Williams, Toyota & Brawn's cars. The stewards threw out the complaint, which was about the rear "Diffusers" (All part of the Aerodynamics at the underneath of the car), so the teams have appealed against the decision - meaning that the hearing will not be held until after next weekend, which is the Malaysian race.

Oh what a surprise though... these 3 cars (Brawn, Toyota and Williams) were the ones showing a lot of promise in testing. Jealousy perhaps ?

Anyway, I do hope there is not too much of this in 2009, including all the other annoying political crap. I want to see the racing, some of which there appears will actually happen this year !

Well done to the Brawn GP team - or Virgin Brawn as they are now - for taking the front row for tomorrow's race. Odd that the positions are - at least for now - reversed from last year, i.e. Jenson Button on pole, and Lewis Hamilton joining the "also rans" at the back.

I know what you mean Nick. Lewis is a good driver, but considering he was in the best car last year and the year before, he couldn't really fail could he ?

Jenson may have only one win under his belt, but in 9 seasons, he has been in the top 10 places of the championship 6 times. In 2004, he was on the podium 10 times, including 4 x 2nds. If it hadn't been for a certain German chap, his team mate, and a red Car, Jenson would have won the championship.... and that is including 3 retirements !!

I personally think - despite the obvious fact that he has all the extra experience - he is the better package - driver wise - out of the two.

Button has been under rated because of the car, he is a very good driver and I' sure with Ross in the team he'll do a lot better, let's hope that he lives up to his talent.

More to the point, let's hope the car holds together. The problem they had in 2004 was that they were able to put together a quick qualifier, but the race pace was always suspect.

Interesting comment from Jenson today, about the car being better with a heavier fuel load. It could be a cunning bluff, but who knows. All I know is that I shall be asleep when the race is on, and shall therefore watch it when I get up.

Great result, and was looking like a very close finish, had Kubica and Vettel not come together near the end. Ferrari had a forgettable day, but I dare say they will be back later on in the season.

Fortunate day for Hamilton, and great Debut from Buemi (Ironic considering Motor Racing is basically banned in his home country - Switzerland).

But of course, the day belonged to Jense and Brawn.

Button has been a nobody for too long, I can't see this being anything other than a fluke.
