St Mark's Day - also known as Cowslip Day as they are now come into bloom.
Their name is a polite form of 'cowslops' or 'cowpats'' from which they were believed to have engendered. Cowslip have long been used as an aid to beauty and for medicinal purposes.
"Cowslip flowers conserved in sugar, and also the stilled water thereof, are very good for them that are weak and brought low by long sickness; and it hath a singular property to comfort the heart."
c1568
"An oinment being made of cowslips takes away spots and wrinkles of the skin, sun-burning, and freckles, and is a great aid to beauty"

To be a little self indulgent...
I have just returned from the lakes, where we celebrated our wedding anniversary Today marks thirty years since we 'got together' as a couple. I wasn't sure it would happen, I could very easily not have been here!
2023 was absolutely our 'annus horriblis'. Health issues overshadowed all of our lives (my family that is), some more serious than others.
But... I'm still here! And today, as I count my blessings, (and prepare for an evening in my favourite Italian restaurant) I am more grateful than ever. I realise some (most?) of you couldn't give a toss, but nevertheless I would like to wish you all love, health, and happiness always.
Happy Wednesday! Xx
