Sphinx has given me the honour of starting this thread and I thought this Poem seemed appropriate - by that well known author - Anonymous! It was originally written in Middle English circa 13rh century. Here are both the original and the modern versions. I seem to remember having to learn both versions while at Primary school - did anyone else?
Summer is a coming in (Modern English)
Summer is a coming in,
Loudly sing, cuckoo!
The seed is growing
And the meadow is blooming,
And the wood is coming into leaf now,
The ewe is bleating after her lamb,
The cow is lowing after her calf;
The bullock is prancing,
The stag cavorting
Sing merrily, cuckoo!
You sing well, cuckoo,
Never stop now.
Sing, cuckoo, now; sing, cuckoo;
Sumer is i-cumin in ( Middle English)
Sing, cuccu, nu. Sing, cuccu.
Sing, cuccu. Sing, cuccu, nu.
Sumer is i-cumin in—
Lhude sing, cuccu!
Groweth sed and bloweth med
And springth the wude nu.
Awe bleteth after lomb,
Lhouth after calve cu,
Bulluc sterteth, bucke verteth—
Murie sing, cuccu!
Wel singes thu, cuccu.
Ne swik thu naver nu!
I'm not a big fan of poetry, more enjoy it from time to time - My tastes vary from the serious to the silly - a sort of whatever takes my fancy sort of thing.
Here are my two favourites. As you will see, poetry doesn't have to send you to sleep.
Less than serious
Trump will, try to find some excuse to delay the upcoming elections if it looks like he's going to lose.
That isn't to suggest he can, just that he'll try (or at least tweet his desire to do so).
What interest might there be in a poem of the week (or even day) thread?
Rather than having specific subjects, I wondered if our resident poets might like to suggest a poem each week or day and post it up. Perhaps including a brief summary of why they like (or dislike) it.
Could be self-written original work or just a favourite 'professional' poem.

So I've recently upgraded to an iPhone 8 because I had my 6s for about 4 years.
I don't see the point in purchasing these new models as it's a waste of money.
All apple do is make the screen better and add a better camera... That's it!
It's daylight robbery!
I could of had the 11 but thought what's the point?
I shall keep my iPhone 8 for 4 years too!
