    I believe that the Malay and Indonesian languages are quite similar. When you speak to Malays, can you understand what they're saying?

    Mostly, but their language developed differently. It took a couple of days to get into it as even their English has its own 'bent'.
    Coins are shilling and they say things like, "a thousand over".
    You get into it in either language.

    Numbers are all the same as Indonesian, and many words are the same, but pronunciation can vary a little. Some words are totally different -
    Indonesian has Toilet, but Malaysian has Tandas.

    This is actually quite a serious point. janet (with a lower-case j) who used to post on here, the Blue Place, and (prior to that) newsgroups, once pointed out that advertising that you're going on holiday isn't always a good idea, as it's letting any lurkers (whom you might not know) know that your house will be empty for a while. Less of an issue on BC, but back in the day when newsgroups would identify your IP address, and a whois would give the name of your host - which would be your home address if you had your own domain - it was more of an issue.
