However, I've got this idea in my head for a "Tales of the Unexpected" type story. Based on the Greek delphic "ambiguous/self fulfilling prophecy" idea.
So this guy (or gal if you prefer) goes to a soothsayer/oracle and ask them where they're going to die, so they will never go there.
The oracle says "Cork".
A bit later on, our protagonist is told that he is being posted in his job to Cork, Ireland. Understandably, he doesn't want the assignment. Now you need a few convolutions of the plot to make this work, and I'm not much good at that. But the ultimate outcome is that the protagonist gladly accepts a posting in Liège, Belgium, as an alternative.
The kicker ... guess what the French word for 'cork' is. Actually Luna, I'm not a great fiction writer, I prefer writing about factual matters (though some wise guy will say my posts are fiction).
