Default Best cover version that you didn't know was a cover...

    I've got loads of these.

    Original first.

..and then of course, the version we all know.

Thinking of it, I could have put the Atomic Kitten versions in Mem's worst cover thread as well.

OK, one more before I go to work.

    First the original from 1964:

Wait a minute! I hear you say, not only is that not the original, nobody even thought it was, the original was by the Isley Brothers in 1962, right?

Er, no, that's the one a lot of people THINK is the original. The original was by the Top Notes (who?) in 1961.

Thanks for those, Forkers. Listened to all three - still prefer The Beatles version of Twist and Shout. Don't like the Tide is High at all - but it is interesting to learn about different versions..

I actually like the original. The Beatles version is closer to the Isley Brothers one.

Another great cover by Blondie, Denis. The original was "Denise" recorded by Randy & The Rainbows (whose lead singer apparently wished he was Franki Valli ). Its writer Neil Levenson released a truly awful instrumental version on a primitive electric organ. Here are all three for comparison.

Actually listening to the Levenson version, it kinda reminds me of playing the "Lemmings" video game back in the day.
