    Default Depressed or not deluded?

There is a phenomenon called "depressive realism" where depressed people make more accurate judgments than optimists.

People admonish depressives and people who have a negative outlook and may avoid them.

But who cares if the rest of you lot are simply deluded.

    Lol

This thread goes well with the current black theme of the forums.

I think that rather than dressing this up as a pretentious pseudo philosophical debate you could have asked , who is likely to be correct, glass half full people or glass half empty people. You really haven't uncovered a motherlode of amazing philosophical dilemmas you know.

It is not in the religion and Philosophy forum it is in Talk and Chat.

I am discussing the stigma faced by people who maybe depressed and don't promote continuous positivity or have an optimism bias.

I don't want to live off false hope.

Accurate judgement or self-fulfilling prophecy? It's not hard for a pessimist to be correct... all he has to do is not bother to try.

I wouldn't deny the possibility, but that group remains boring and fun free.

Yes. The fingers I trapped in my car door are no longer painful, and I missed the pain in the same way.

Both optimists and pessimists are prone to bad judgement.

Making good judgements is a tight rope walk, any bias from either end of the emotional spectrum will tip you over.
