The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Single, Portrait, 1983, A 3943) A Girls Just Want To Have Fun B Right Track Wrong Train Not much to say about this that I didn't say in the other thread... Still a great single.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread D:Ream - Blame It On Me (Single, Magnet, 1993, MAG 1027, Ltd edition poster pack) A Blame It On Me B Heart Of Gold D:Ream are probably best known for Things Can Only Get Better, or for having Dr Brian Cox (as he is now) on keyboards. They're probably not best known for this! It's OK though.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread D.O.A. - It's Not Unusual... But It Sure Is Ugly (Single, Alternative Tentacles, 1993, VIRUS 120, Ltd edition pale green vinyl) A It's Not Unusual B Dead Men Tell No Tales Aaaah, the punk cover, one of the most enduring features of the genre. Yes, this is the Tom Jones song. DOA formed in 1978 and split in 2013, with a huge number of line-up changes, as is common in punk. They've released 17 albums in that time. They are known as one of the founding groups of the US hardcore punk scene. The video shows them being thrown out of the bar they're booked to play in - nice.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Daisy Chainsaw - Pink Flower (Single, One Little Indian, 1992, 82 TP7) A Pink Flower AA Room Eleven I wrote a lot about DC in the other thread, they were a great, if self-destructive and short lived band. Sometimes what makes a band good can also be the cause of their downfall, in some bands that's drugs, in the case of DC it was the fact that they hated each other...
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Damian - Time Warp (Single, Jive, 1989, JIVE 209) A Time Warp (PWL Remix) B Fight For What You Believe Dance remake that does the chorus more times than in the film. It's not bad I suppose as party dances go.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Damned - Grimly Fiendish (Single, MCA, 1985, GRIM 1) A Grimly Fiendish B Edward The Bear The Damned started as a punk band on Stiff Records, but evolved as they learned to play their instruments better. They spent some time in the 80s as one of the top goth bands, along with Siouxsie and the Banshees, who formed at around the same time in the same scene. The actually split in early 1978 after their second album flopped, only to reform a year later with a completely different sound. They've had numerous lineup changes since, have split and reformed many times. There is a version of the band active at the moment. This was their first single after signing their major label deal with MCA. Captain Sensible had just left the band and they all adopted the more gothic style of vocalist, Dave Vanian. This was a minor success (number 21) but was a hint at the new style that would lead to much bigger things, with Eloise hitting number 3 the following year.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Damned - Gigolo (Single, MCA, 1986, GRIM 6, Poster pack) A Gigolo B The Portrait This was from the Anything album, but didn't sell well.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Damned - Alone Again Or (Single, MCA, 1987, GRIM 7) A Alone Again Or B In Dulce Decorum This was from the same album and fared little better, although it is a MUCH better track than Gigolo, IMO.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Dan Hartman - Instant Replay (Single, Blue Sky, 1978, S SKY 6706) A Instant Replay B Instant Replay (Replayed) This came from the album of the same name and was a huge success for Dan. Unfortunately his follow up was more of the same, but by then disco was on the way out. His follow up was "Relight My Fire" which flopped, although he did earn from it MUCH later when Take That covered it with Lulu. Unfortunately he died a year later.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Dance 2 Trance - Power Of American Natives (Single, Logic, 1993, 74321 13958 7) A Airplay Edit B Ethno Instrumental Mix Edit This was the only notable hit for this German dance duo. It was good for its day.
