The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Cult - Lil' Devil (Single, Beggars Banquet, 1987, BEG 188) A Lil' Devil B Zap City This is my favourite Cult single, and it seems that for once the UK public agreed with me as it was also their highest charting single in the UK, reaching number 11. The B side is pretty damn good as well.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Cult - Interview / Wild Flower (Flexi disc, Record Mirror, 1987, RM FLEXIDISC 3, Mono, Promo, Single sided) A Interview + Previously unreleased version of Wild Flower This came free with an edition of Record Mirror, which I didn't buy very often. I bought a LOT of music mags, just not Record Mirror, I only bought this one because of this flexi. I was more into NME, Melody Maker, Sounds, Underground and Kerrrang! The interview turned out to be about the various mixing they did to get the album sound just so. Can;t remember much of it tbh. The track faded in while they were still talking.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread The Cult - Wild Flower (Single, Beggars Banquet, 1987, BEG 195) A Wild Flower B Love Trooper ...and this is the proper single!
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Culture Club - It's A Miracle (Single, Virgin, 1984, 106 233) A It's A Miracle B Love Twist I never got into CUlture Club first time round, this was one of a huge number of singles I bought in one second hand buying spree when I suddenly found myself asked to DJ an 80s night in a club I'd been trying to get into. It's a bit shit tbh.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Cure - High (Single, Fiction, 1992, FICS 39) A High B This Twilight Garden The Cure are another band where the stuff I have on 7" is later stuff. (They briefly dropped the "The") during this period. Robert Smith was an artistic genius and complete nutter. At one point in the 80s he decided he didn't like his phone ringing. So he turned the bell off and just picked it up every time he walked past to see if anyone was there - true story. Their label is interesting, I've met a lot of people who think Fiction Records are either owned by The Cure or was created for the Cure. Neither is true. Fiction is an independent label, which WAS a tiny independent label. They have an agreement with Polydor that they manufacture the records/Cds and distribute them and they have other distributers around the world. The Cure were signed to Fiction just like any other act on its roster, but The Cure did MAKE Fiction Records (and by giving them the chance, I guess Fiction Records made The Cure), they are by far their biggest selling artist and have remained loyal to Fiction rather than jumping ship for a major label as so many bands do. Fiction also have had The Associates on their books for a long time, and their more recent successes include Snow Patrol and the Maccabees. In the early 90s they kind of cashed in on the melodic indie pop that was around at the time and managed to do it better than anyone else... High is not quite there, it still has all the weird Cure hallmarks that make them one of the greatest bands ever, you'll have to come back tomorrow to be reminded of what happens when Robert Smith goes PROPERLY commercial.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Cure - Friday I'm In Love (Single, Fiction, 1992, FICS 42) A Friday I'm In Love B Halo Possible the most commercial Cure track ever. Still like it though.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Curiosity - I Need Your Lovin' (Single, Arista, 1992, 74321 111377) A I Need Your Lovin' B On Fire This Curiosity Killed The Cat after they shortened the name. One of those bands I could take or leave, some stuff was OK, most was mediocre. This is mediocre. Not only that, it's a cover of a Teena Marie song that was mediocre to start with...
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Curiosity Killed The Cat - Down To Earth (Single, Mercury, 1986, CAT 2) A Down To Earth B Down To Earth (Instrumental) This is one of their better, and better known, tracks. It was their second single and their first top 10 hit.
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Curiosity Killed The Cat - Free (Single, Mercury, 1987, CAT 5) A Free B Free (Instrumental) The last of theirs I have...
The Fork Me 7" vinyl collection thread Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up (Single, Buddah, 1971, 2011-080) A Move On Up B1 Beautiful Mother Of Mine B2 Give It Up Even if you've never heard of Curtis Mayfield (1942-1999) you'll recognise this when you hear it, it's a soul classic. Curtis started his career as a founding member of The Impressions, but left to go solo in 1970. He's also known for Superfly, from the film of the same name.
