Another band that Brits tend to think of as a one hit wonder, Canned Heat formed in 1965, and are still going, although they have no original members, three of the band have been members since the 60s (Bassist and vocalist, Larry Taylor and drummer, Adolfo de la Parra joined in 1967 and guitarist Harvey Mandell in 1969). The band's founder and original vocalist, Bob Hite was in the band until his death in 1981. They've released 32 studio albums, 10 live albums and 11 compilations!

On The Road Again was first released in 1968, the year I was born.

More 90s dance, and another big dance floor filler. Cappella aren't a band as such, they're a large Italian production team. They have 10 studios and loads of people working for them on a session basis. Each track they make normally has 3 producers. The head honcho is Gianfranco Bortolotti. Sometimes labelled as the Italian SAW, Capella have released hit records under lots of different aliases, and some of the best known dance tracks of the 80s and 90s were down to them.

Captain Sensible started his career in The Damned, this couldn't be more different. What was he thinking? Easy number 1 I guess...

The backing singers are a band called Dolly Mixtures, who normally played instruments. Rachel Bor (guitar) was the Captain's girlfriend.

Both versions are different, even though there's no mix names or anything on the record. The Captain was asked to do this at a point when he didn't have anything else to do and thought it would be a laugh. The record company wanted to vie for that ear's Christmas number one, but despite this getting loads of publicity as a rank outsider, it flopped (OK, it got to number 71, which was his highest chart placing for 8 years).

I've met Captain Sensible a few times, he lives in Brighton and I was active in the punk/alternative scene so that's no big deal, he's a genuinely nice bloke though.

I like the Cardigans, Swedish indie pop for the 90s - they also introduced us to the beautiful and talented Nina Persson on vocals. They formed in 1992 and still have the original line-up in full. This single was their first hit in their home country in 1994, and scraped the top 30 when released in the UK the following year. I like their later stuff, a lot, but this is still my favourite Cardigans track. It comes from their first album, Emmerdale, which only charted in Sweden.

Their second album, Life, broke Europe from them, this is from their thrid album, First Band On The Moon, which finally broke America, the rest, as they say, is history.

In the UK, this got to number 2, their highest chart entry. This is probably their best known track worldwide. The rest of the Cardigans stuff I have is on CD, so someone else tomorrow.

One of my favourite bands of all time, despite the catalogue number, this wasn't JimBob and Fruitbat's 2nd single, just their 2nd single on Chrysalis.

This was their first top 20 single, narrowly missing the top 10, but became most famous because the Rolling Stones sued the arse off the for the line "Goodbye Ruby Tuesday, come home you silly cow".

From their third album, "1992 The Love Album". The album entered the UK charts at number one and earned them a headline slot at Glastonbury, although they earned themselves a permanent ban by insulting Michael Eavis on stage.

This single was to be their only top 10 hit and is possibly their best known track.
