Dance Like A mother were one of many many groups that emerged from the break up of the Belle Stars. Jennie Matthias was the brains behind the outfit, recruiting Melissa Ritter from the Mo-dettes. They released two singles (this was the first) and recorded and album which never saw the light of day.

I met Jennie once many years later when she was in The Big 5, which also had former members of Bad Manners, The Selecter and The Specials.

It doesn't take much to work out who's video they're taking the piss out of...

I spoke a lot about these Welsh indie-popsters in the other thread. This was their first release after signing a major label deal and was also their first single to chart, albeit at number 50.

It's fairly typical Buds fare, fairly typical late 80s girl led indie fare to be honest. But a nice bubbly, catchy song for all that.

Once upon a time in my home town of Brighton as band was formed called Rocky Sharpe and the Razors. The Razors introduced 50s/60s American Doo-Wop to the British crowd. After a couple of releases and a few TV appearances they split almost in half. With Rocky himself and some of the band forming Rocky Sharpe and the Replays and the rest forming Darts. Both halves were successful in their own right.

This was Darts' first single, and the first of 4 top 10s in a row (this got to number 6, their next three singles all stopped just short of the top spot at number 2).

What an introduction! I don't know why I don't have more by this band, they were awesome.

The first and most successful single for this duo. A reggae classic that needs no introduction.

Their record label was one of the pioneers of Jamaican reggae, founded by Winston Riley, brother of Buster Riley. Their address was 99 Orange Street, Kingston, Jamaica, the same Orange Street where Prince Buster (no relation) was born as mentioned in the Madness song.

Enough dodgy links? I think so, this track speaks for itself anyway.

I already wrote a lot about this band in the 12" thread, this is their best known track, and damn fine it is too. They cut their teeth in the same Hamburg beat clubs that the Beatles played in in their early years, and around the same time too. DDDBM&T played Hamburg in 1962.

It's not the sort of thread that will get loads of replies, doesn't mean people aren't reading it though.

The poetry forum used to suffer the same issue. It's just how forums are.

I read it, I know Fairy_Nuff does and there are others too.

Hmmm, just looking at this again now the groups have suddenly shown up again.

I might come back to it and finish this thread - although I got back into buying once I shipped the collection so the threads are all out of date now. There's records I have which are missing from the threads.
