Being a big fan of Tom Baker (which is now my neighbor's name) I stopped watching after high School and just marithon watched all of the new Doctor series and Torchwood. While waiting on the next episode I am watching the classic Dotor who's just on series 2 and Jamie is so GAY. MY they are korny but I am dedicated to seeing them all. Series 1 was painful to watch but 2 is getting better. Series 3 will be color OH Joy.

Loads of those early episodes got wiped by the BBC in the seventies.

They've found cine films of some of the Troughton episodes, but most of the VTs are, as you say, wiped and therefore impossible to recover. As for the missing Hartnell episodes, I don't mourn them. He was rubbish. I'm told Geoffrey Bayldon (Catweazle)was considered for the role and I think he would have been excellent.

The early episodes give a an interesting insight to the UK in the 70's.
Seems strange that the doctor is so frikkin old in the early series.

That's because he's 903 years old.

But he can regenerate, when he needed a cane it was time to jump in front of a bus or something.

I think he's doing a Benjamin Button sequence. He seems to gradually be getting younger (okay, there was a slight hiccup when it came to Sylvester McCoy, but he ironed it out again by wearing leather jackets as Christopher Eccleston)
