I have noticed a distinct reluctance among cats to actually go outside in the winter when it is cold.

What's that all about? How would a cat in the wild feed itself if it considered it too cold to go hunting?

My cat went out for 5 minutes earlier then came back in. A passing dog (which he was NOT scared of) had nothing to do with this decision.

Ginger likes to monitor local dogs from inside the house.

2 of my cats aren't bothered about going outside at all, the other 1 will go outside, but he's back very quickly - unlike in the warmer weather when he's out for hours on end.
