Sorry! I seem to have neglected the book club
I was just checking my profile to see what threads I had subscribed to and noticed that I had enrolled as a member of the book club.

As Cliveanne said, there doesn't seem to be much action here. Is it because its not a regular forum? I don't even remember why I seem to have posted a thread about A Thousand Splendid Suns and then not really talked about the book at all. Was this thread edited in some way?

Splendid Suns was a really good book that I would recommend to anyone. Its exciting and informative and a bloody good story to boot. But I have read loads of books since then.

Anyone got any idea why I'm the first one to post since June 2009? (or thereabouts - I haven't checked)

Ah, I see. I just checked the Dog Lover's Group and saw that you have to join the group before you can post. This must put people off casual posts and suggests that only serious Dog Lovers need apply.

Assuming the same rules apply here, its not surprising that its not busier. I like to write a review for every book I read. Partly so I can go back and remind myself how I felt about it at the time.

The trouble is, with so few members and so many books to choose from, it seems unlikely that two or more people from the group would have read the same book to enable them to have a "discussion".

    Thoughts?

IMO it would be better if these interesting things were posted in the forems....*Poetry and Prose* would be fine for threads about books ........
I hardly ever remember to look at what is going on in the 'groups', and I bet most other people don't bother either. I think these 'groups' are a daft (and sad) idea, and it is a great shame because some interesting discussions would get going on books for a start....and lots of the other subjects mentioned in 'groups'.

Having said that, I have not read Splendid Suns, so can't add much.

I read all the time, but mostly theology (higher criticism) and ancient history. Not to everyone's taste....or so my daughter informs me.

But then so do you. Which I tend to agree with.

I think most other people agree too.....The 'groups' were part of the vBulletin package, wherein I imagine they thought it would appeal to teenagers as something along the lines of facebook etc.....However, with the exception of 'Matt', we do not have teenage members in here.
