Well the nights are drawing out quickly now...it's semi-light at 5pm already.

Here's where we are at:

On the shortest day itself....
22 Dec 2011
Sunrise: 08:23
Sunset: 15:51

Today (15th Jan):
Sunrise: 08:18
Sunset: 16:19

So we have already gained 28 minutes in the evenings.

And yet, only 5 minutes in the mornings...anyone know why there is discrepancy?

    it's semi-light
Is that half way out of the dark?

How is it off-topic? You said it was semi-light and I'm asking exactly how much that is. If there can be such a thing as semi-light, then there must be a full-light. If it's a linear scale, then semi, implying a midpoint, would be halfway between no light and full light, but it might be a logarithmic scale, I don't know, you're the expert so I'm asking for clarification.

It was a bit light, and a bit dark. It was probably "more light than dark", just. There is a point where that threshold is crossed. It's not scientific, I'm not a scientist.

    I'm not a scientist.
Probably wasn't a wise choice of topic then.

Since when were sunset times the preserve of scientists?

I was referring to your bizarre concept of "semi-light".

It's a perfectly legitimate phrase. Partially light. Not completely dark, but not completely light either.

Either there is light or there isn't. Complete darkness is a concept which, in principle at least, makes sense, but "completely light" to all practical intents is meaningless.
