Ok we're not actually in 2012 yet, but once again as we have now passed the shortest day I shall commence my occasional charting of how the nights are slowly drawing out.

On the shortest day itself....
22 Dec 2011
Sunrise: 08:23
Sunset: 15:51

Today (27th Dec):
Sunrise: 08:25
Sunset: 15:55

So we have already gained 4 minutes in the evenings.

The difference between the shortest day and the longest day in your neck of the woods is nearly nine hours. Four minutes is not Half Way.

Didn't you watch LAST year's Doctor Who Christmas Special?

If you did, you would know the significance of "Half way out of the dark".

Ah. So this wasn't about sunset times as implied in the thread title, but actually about Dr Who.

I see. You are making perfect sense as usual.

No, it was about sunset times, but it employs the use of a phrase from Doctor Who, a phrase that I find very poetic.

Poetic it may be. Relevant or accurate it is not.

I won't pretend it's accurate, but it certainly is relevant to this blog.

Because your blog is all about non-sequiturs?

My blog is about sunset times. Occasionally illustrated with poetic phrases from Doctor Who.

You mean embellished. Or decorated. Or desecrated. An illustration should support your point, not be totally contradicted by it.

I think you're making rather a lot of a phrase whose intended meaning is perfectly clear...Christmas marks being "half way out of the dark", because that is what you are, figuratively speaking, at that point.
