SOLSTICE ON GLASTONBURY TOR

In silence, alone but for
the ghosts of those gone long before,
I wait for the sunrise
on the summit of Glastonbury Tor

Starlight plays with my hair,
the wind probes with gentle fingers
through the folds of my robe.
The velvet darkness lingers.

Shadows drift across the Moon,
guiding her gently away to sleep,
in the East the sky is stirred
as the first flickering flames creep

forth to awaken the day.
The air shivers with the power
of existence - and I am one with
the creator of this hallowed hour.

My soul trembles in the hand of my God,
I am love, I am life, I am aware
of the universe in all it’s glory
and I kneel in thankful prayer.

Day breaks in a surge of wonder,
a memory that fills me still with awe.
A summer solstice sunrise seen
from the summit of Glastonbury Tor.
