I don't know about the energy saving modes, but I'm told switching it on and off every time wears out the power supply and increases the chance voltage spikes that could damage vital parts. Some of the computers where I used to work had been running continuously for literally years when I left.

It can be left on for ever. In fact, as Archie says, some computers run for years without even needing a reboot (probably not ones that run Windows though!).

Slightly bigger scale, but a Linux server (such as the one wot BC runs on) can be left on for weeks or even months without a reboot.

Posts made are my personal opinions and not necessarily the opinions of BC Forums.

I only needed it on all night because of a slow download/Torrent.

Most of the PCs where I work are never turned off. Obviously servers run for months without needing anything more than a soft boot.

Oh noes. Bias meter at 100%.

My best mate has had his computer on for like 5 months now, No offence to them, but they are really weird. They always leave everything on. They stay signed in on Messenger and go out, The TV is left on apparently so the dog doesn't get lonely. But think of all the energy they are wasting... A PC 2 laptops left on at all times.
