So the officer calmly tells him of the red light violation. The motorist instantly goes on a tirade, questioning the officer's ancestry, sexual orientation, etc., in rather explicit offensive terms.
The tirade goes on without the officer saying a dickybird.
When the officer finishes writing the ticket he puts an "AH" in the lower right corner of the narrative portion of the ticket. He then hands it to the 'violator' for his signature.
The bloke signs the ticket angrily, and when presented with his copy points to the "AH" and demands to know what it stands for.
The officer says, "That's so when we go to court, I'll remember that you're an arsehole."
Two months later they're in court. The 'violator' has a bad driving record and he has a heap of points and is in danger of losing his licence, so he hired a barrister to represent him.
On the stand the officer testifies to seeing the man run through the red light.
Under cross examination the barrister for the defence asks; "Officer is this a reasonable facsimile of the ticket that you issued to my client?"
The police officer replies: "Yes, sir, that is the defendant's copy, his signature and mine, same number at the top."
Barrister: "Officer, is there any particular marking or notation on this ticket you don't normally make?"
"Yes, sir, in the lower right corner of the narrative there is an "AH," underlined."
"What does the "AH" stand for, officer?"

I found a lovely house, near the university near lots of great local shops, coffeeshops and restaurants with its own parking - pretty rare in this part of Leicester! It needs some work doing to it so I thought I'd document the progress. It's occurred to me I haven't actually taken a picture of the outside of the house, so you can only see the rooms.

The previous owner had bought the house in 2006 and done it up to a high standard, but she got a job offer she couldn't refuse when they were about 80% of the way through the building work - so I have the remaining 20% to do. This isn't too onerous - some plastering, mainly, and a couple of windows that need fixing, but the biggie is that I didn't like the kitchen they had (it was quite new and rather expensive, but was all free-standing units) and she loved it, so wanted to take it with her - and dropped the price if she could do so. Fine by me - so I need to get a kitchen too. I'd also like a few changes, so this is what I'm having done:

1. There are big gates across the drive - that's fine, but they open outwards (so you can get the car in) and are locked from the inside, so it's pretty inconvenient every time you want to drive the car in and out. So I want these moved back a few metres so I have a forecourt to park on, and only need to open the gates to put the car behind them if I'm away on holiday. I also want a lockable door in the gate so I can wheel my bike into the back garden.

2. The front door leads into a lovely big hall, with a front room off it and another dining room, that leads into the kitchen. I want the front room and dining room knocked into one, with concertina glass-panelled doors so I can have it open plan, or make it two separate rooms by closing the doors.

3. A new U-shaped kitchen - the IKEA planner is coming down next week, and my builder will be fitting it.

4. The lovely stained glass needs a little repair work in places.

5. Original 1920s doors - need rehanging and painting.

6. New lighting in the kitchen - probably going for a set of LEDs: bright but low power.

7. Replastering.

8. Decorating throughout.

Here's the pics so far - most of them were the house as I bought it. The builder turned up on Tuesday, and has made fantastic progress: when I cycled past yesterday, he'd already moved the gates back and installed a new door, and when I went into the house today he'd already started the knock-through processes, propping up the ceiling and knocking the area through where the RSJ will go, and removed the radiator in the front room and relocated the pipes for it.

I currently live in a room in a house just round the corner - less than a minute's walk - so it's easy to see the progress!
