The Japanese delicacy fugu, or blowfish, is so poisonous that the smallest mistake in its preparation could be fatal. But Tokyo's city government is planning to ease restrictions that allow only highly trained and licensed chefs to serve the dish.

Kunio Miura always uses his special knives to prepare fugu - wooden-handled with blades tempered by a swordsmith to a keen edge. Before he starts work in his kitchen they are brought to him by an assistant, carefully stored in a special box.

Miura-san, as he is respectfully known, has been cutting up blowfish for 60 years but still approaches the task with caution. A single mistake could mean death for a customer.

Fugu is an expensive delicacy in Japan and the restaurants that serve it are among the finest in the country. In Miura-san's establishment a meal starts at $120 (£76) a head, but people are willing to pay for the assurance of the fugu chef licence mounted on his wall, yellowed now with age. I found a lovely house, near the university near lots of great local shops, coffeeshops and restaurants with its own parking - pretty rare in this part of Leicester! It needs some work doing to it so I thought I'd document the progress. It's occurred to me I haven't actually taken a picture of the outside of the house, so you can only see the rooms.

The previous owner had bought the house in 2006 and done it up to a high standard, but she got a job offer she couldn't refuse when they were about 80% of the way through the building work - so I have the remaining 20% to do. This isn't too onerous - some plastering, mainly, and a couple of windows that need fixing, but the biggie is that I didn't like the kitchen they had (it was quite new and rather expensive, but was all free-standing units) and she loved it, so wanted to take it with her - and dropped the price if she could do so. Fine by me - so I need to get a kitchen too. I'd also like a few changes, so this is what I'm having done:

1. There are big gates across the drive - that's fine, but they open outwards (so you can get the car in) and are locked from the inside, so it's pretty inconvenient every time you want to drive the car in and out. So I want these moved back a few metres so I have a forecourt to park on, and only need to open the gates to put the car behind them if I'm away on holiday. I also want a lockable door in the gate so I can wheel my bike into the back garden.

2. The front door leads into a lovely big hall, with a front room off it and another dining room, that leads into the kitchen. I want the front room and dining room knocked into one, with concertina glass-panelled doors so I can have it open plan, or make it two separate rooms by closing the doors.

3. A new U-shaped kitchen - the IKEA planner is coming down next week, and my builder will be fitting it.

4. The lovely stained glass needs a little repair work in places.

5. Original 1920s doors - need rehanging and painting.

6. New lighting in the kitchen - probably going for a set of LEDs: bright but low power.

7. Replastering.

8. Decorating throughout.

Here's the pics so far - most of them were the house as I bought it. The builder turned up on Tuesday, and has made fantastic progress: when I cycled past yesterday, he'd already moved the gates back and installed a new door, and when I went into the house today he'd already started the knock-through processes, propping up the ceiling and knocking the area through where the RSJ will go, and removed the radiator in the front room and relocated the pipes for it.

I currently live in a room in a house just round the corner - less than a minute's walk - so it's easy to see the progress!

But then I remembered what I had said on here a few days ago, that we are there to wrest control of their natural resources from them, and so I should also be crying for the afghan families wiped out during those wedding parties where NATO mistakenly sends down a 500lb bomb and the political damage never heals.

So it's a funny old world I decided, nothing comes for free - they want an education system and free elections? Then give us your oil. You want a life in the army and fame and to see the world? You might have to pay dearly.

There is much in life that has two sides.

I still feel in my heart of hearts that the Taliban are evil and wicked and need to be destroyed, so good luck to all NATO troops out there...

Detectives want to speak to Leonard Neamu who was just 12 years old when he was pictured looting toys from an Argos store in east London last August.

The boy, who is described as being of Romanian descent, is also wanted for questioning about looting at an off licence during the riots, another shop burglary in the East End and a raid on a designer clothes store in Essex.

Apparently the night 'song' (a series of annoying bird noises) late at night is to attract a mate. (Potential 'mates' are probably asleep. :r5)...and the frog noise in the early hours is it defending it's territory. (Like anyone cares).
