Without this internet I'd be going crazy. It is good. It's time to settle down. Should have trusted in me and Kate, the comedy act, now I'm alone and she is off with some presumably tolerable bloke!
So tempted to text her an apology but it is no good and must move on, I've apologised enough. She was wife material.

It's strange to think after all this umming and awing all I've learned is what people take for granted anyway - you first have passion, then character bonding, then lifelong love...

but I couldn't take it for granted, my previous important relationship was way better - but I was younger and more impressionable

it's horrible to grow old and realise you don't feel as much but you feel more heavily

Have just been watching Fawlty Towers the episode where Sybil moves out after 15 years and it made me think of Kate. Basil reminds me of me. In fact, I'm thinking about her because I haven't had any email contact from my other friends and the girls at work seem straight and boring, the only one I like (who likes me too) teminates each conversation neatly as if she was replacing a dangerous manhole cover, so perhaps she doesn't like me like that anyway...

So later listen to a bit of music and chill out. I am seized with regrets. I will write my regrets, like du Bellay. I am just wondering if after a hypothetical reconciliation I would just be bored again. I suppose so. And only giving her one in the morning when I'm naturally brewing is not exactly going to make her feel valued I guess. So better off where she can feel truly loved! This is a good blog. It's making me feel better already.

It's just the guilt I suppose, and the happy memories. Maybe it's heartache not heartbreak.

Nothing to do this week - no AA meeting to go to.

Is having kids the be all and end all? If it was Jesus would have had some.

Never mind, I'll try again. Work has picked up somewhat since last January and we've finally finished the Christmas leftovers, so that's to last two blog posts dealt with!

This so-called credit crunch is starting to hit home now, mainly due to the household bills jumping up. It's not only the electric (we don't have gas) but every insurance policy we have has taken a price hike as well! Then there's the petrol price, I know it's coming down, but not half as fast as the price of oil is dropping!

Never mind, soon be Christmas again and we'll all be even poorer than an ex London Futse Trader! :r7

Here we go - at last - with the next set of pictures. T/he garden is now quite a mass of green stuff everywhere so pictures of individual plants are tricky.

This is a sunflower I found growing in my dad's garden a few weeks back. He was going to sling it, so I rescued it...it's doing it ok but may be a bit too late to flower this year before the frosts. I may bring it inside in September.

The beans are now growing overhead after two of the canes collapsed at the top. Gives a nice effect.

Sweet peas. Not flowered yey, and as you can see, they have ignored the special netting I put up for them.

Potato crop 2, time to pull these I reckon.

The tomato plants have amazingly produced dozens of tomatoes...ripening them might be an issue though.

The hydrangea, which has recovered a little but not really flowered. Actually, this is just one small bit of it that i can actually see. needs to be moved next year methinks.

This just grew of its own accord. We think it might be an elder.

The rose has done ok but has no flowers left open, a few more buds coming though. Again needs to be moved next year, it needs more light.

The tub at the front of the house, including the excellent but unusual trailing geranium!

Overview of the entire back garden, taken from inside.

The last remaining of my original five sunflowers, this one is finally thriving and should flower soon.

The fushia, which has been flowering constantly since spring.

The hanging basket out the front.

These pictures are already a week old and the garden is growing at a frightening rate. You now have to be a contortionist to get the back of it, so big has everything grown!

This year's is the best ever, so here are the latest picures.
More pics at my Backyard Garden Album

Let's start with the hanging basket at the front:

From the other side:

The runner beans are now so tall they have grown out of shot.

The tub out at the front. Some of the pansies have inexplicably died.

The fuschia in the basket at the back. This is brilliant this year.

The hydrangea is getting better but it's still a write-off this year. In the autumn I need to prune it right down.

I started in 2006 with three lilies. Since then one has died. Both came up this year, but the flower bud died on one of them, meaning just the one flower. Also they have not grown as tall this year...no idea why.

One of the lupins, surrounded by beans.

The rest of the lupins, almost finished now.

The rose, surrounded by yellow pansies.

Poppies and potatoes!

The later crop of potatoes, almost caught up with the first lot now.

Snapdragons, petunias and marigolds.

More petunias and pansies.

More snapdragons and various other flowers.

The sunflowers are struggling again this year.

Sweet peas.

The tomato plants are taking over.

So it turns out that California has become the second state to legalize same-sex marriage. Some are calling it a huge win for civil rights, others are calling it an absolute travesty. Some are calling it a huge win for civil rights, others are calling it an absolute travesty. Personally, I think it is a huge win for the homosexual community. Good for them. But frankly, I just don’t see why anyone who is not homosexual cares.

It seems sad to me that in this day and age we should still be struggling for certain segments of our society to be getting even the most basic of human rights. I would have hoped that we had progressed farther than that. Of course homosexuals should be able to wed, why not?

In a day when there are so many things to separate and divide us as people, isn’t it a positive move to support something that encourages a loving bond? In a world rife with violence and despair, isn’t it a good thing that we should be supporting commitments of love? Who has a more legitimate marriage, a gay couple that stays together for 50 years, or a straight couple that gets divorced less than a year after their marriage?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that homosexuals have more meaningful, longer lasting relationships. Nor am I saying that heterosexuals all get divorced in time. What I am saying is that both groups are completely capable of having meaningful, long term relationships, and the government SHOULD recognize that fact.

There are those who argue that homosexual marriage somehow cheapens other forms of marriage. I think this is an absurd notion with the sole intent of maintaining a status quo. The fact is that a homosexual marriage does not cheapen a heterosexual marriage anymore than a Hindu marriage cheapens a Christian marriage. Furthermore, no one is going to capture you and force you to marry someone of the same sex. All the legislation does is grant equal recognition under the law, a concept which is at the very heart of the foundation of the United States.

Firstly, the fuschia. My first successfully over-wintered fuschia is almost ready to flower.:

The star of the show is the first lupin, now in full flower. A bit blurred these pics, might try a better one in daylight while it's still in flower. Five other lupins have flowers on the way, lupins are my star performers this year. these were grown from seed in 2006.

This years first potato crop...inside a net now to stop them falling over.

Sunflowers are struggling again due to heavy rain. This is the best of only two that reamin alive. Five had actually germinated but three have died.

The hydrangea has hardly changed in three weeks and I fear it will not survive:

Another lupin, the rose with buds. One bud opened this morning and has now fallen off! And also tucked away in this picture are the lilies and a snapdragon.

These two round tubs are new...snapdragons, petunias and French marigolds populate them.

I have bought four tomato plants which are now in a grow bag. Ever the optimist, me:

And finally, the first bean crop. Looks promising, again:

Welcome again to the BC Backyard Garden Blog, charting the progress of my "garden", and proving that even in a terraced house with a concrete back yard, you can still enjoy nature's wonders!

Five weeks since the last blog but very little had actually changed so it wasn't worth blogging. However now spring is here things are really moving along.

Out the front is the hanging basket.

Also at the front is the single tub with geraniums, pansies and various other stuff.

This shot gives you an idea of how small the back yard is.

The potatoes are just starting to sprout. Last year's crop was amazing so lots to live up to here. the canes will eventually hold netting to keep the plants upright.

The hyrdrangea. I have concerns about this as it has scarcely changed from last time, and seems to be behind others in the area. But it's not dead and is actually growing, albeit slowly.

Pansies and rose. The rose has three buds.....

The fuschia is coming back to life! The first time I have ever had a fuschia survive the winter. It stayed outdoors too.

Believe it or not there are four lupins in this tub, and today I was able to confirm that all four have flowers coming. One is far ahead of the others, you can see it in the picture if you look closely, it's the one on the left. These were grown from seed in 2006 so I'm particularly pleased.

These lilies are in their third year. I repotted them in the winter. One did not survive so there are two this year, but they are doing well and will probably flower again.

In the square tub the runner beans are just sprouting. The two round pots to the left are new, I only did them yesterday, they contain a mix of flowers.

Trip to Lincolnshire. April 21st to 25th.

Monday 21st - travelled over Humber bridge, through Louth, then along the coastal road to Mablethorpe - stayed there in a luxurious caravan. Pub about a mile down the road served superb food - all local produce - ate there every night. Mablethorpe is not very big centrally, but the suburbs stretch out a long way and there are some beautiful properties. The shops in the town centre did not open until 9:30am and closed again at 4:30pm - so i did not really have chance to look at them - but they seemed to be of the usual seaside type, mostly cheap souvenirs and rock.

Tuesday 22nd- Went to Skegness. Voyage back into childhood really. Strangely nothing seemed to have changed very much. They've lost most of the pier, and gained a few more amusement arcades - otherwise much the same as I remember it. Went to the Seal Hospital there. Lovely well kept place. Had Crocodiles, Scorpions, Snakes, and fantastic Butterflies - obviously not all in the same enclosure! It was really good to catch up with the 'lost cousins', the family resemblance was amazing.

Wednesday 23rd - Visited East Kirkby Airfield. Watched a Lancaster taxiing across the runway. Noisy, smelly, but magnificent ! They have a comprehensive museum there, and a NAAFI type tea shop. Also went to RAF Coningsby, to see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, comprising 1 x Dakota, 2 x Hurricanes, 1 x Lancaster, and 5 x Spitfires - all in regular use, and lovingly cared for.

Thursday 24th - Started at Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, where they also had Emus, Porcupines, a pair of Wildcats and their kittens - cute but not friendly - and a beautiful Lynx ! Went on to Alford, to see the oldest thatched Manor House in England, and a working, five sailed, windmill. Later went on to Claythorpe Watermill and Wildlife Sanctuary. There met Barn Owls, Otters, Wallabys, and a pair of pure white peacocks.

Friday 25th - home via Louth, Brigg, and Humber bridge.

Weather was kind, warm enough to be out in TShirst, only rained one day and that was while we were in museums or teashops, so it did not really matter - food was great, mostly local produce - packed a lot of adventures into a few days - photos will appear in due course.

Ok these pictures are a bit late....but these are the first two pictures of the garden taken this year.

Firstly, the hyacinths. These are now in their third year and they are still flowering brilliantly. I love hyacinths.

Unfortunately for the second year running we got no flowers at all from the daffodils or tulips. New ones will be required for next year!

This picture (below) shows the hydrangea, not yet sprouting its way out of winter. the flower heads from last year (all TWO of them!) have been left on as in theory this protects the plant from frost.

Behind the hydrangea are the two healthiest lupins. These were planted from seed in 2006, and in 2007 the one on the left in the rectangular tub actually flowered, albeit late in the year. This year I'm hoping for lots more colour from them.

You can view all the BC Backyard garden pictures in the BC BACKYARD GARDEN ALBUM
