View Full Version : Composition at scene - a dying art?

Way back in the days when cameras had film inside them, the SLR photographer took care to frame and compose the shot for its greatest effect.

Nowadays the image can be captured on the fly, and manipulated within an editing suite - to produce a totally different result to the original shot.

Do people still bother to really look at the original scene... or is creativity now inextricably linked to computer-power?

I've heard this argument many times on other forums, my view is that providing it is only enhancement that is used the image remains a photograph. Once it goes beyond that it becomes a graphic.
I rarely use anything beyond brightness/contrast, white balance and sharpening.
I also frame my shots as best I can to avoid any extra post processing.
